Watched another 3 movies in a row the other day. Since no one is talking, I'll just be the self appointed movie reviewer for the day. heh. Taxi3: CONSPIRACY, I TELL YOU!!! *ahem.* Well it's a french movie, so you should be prepared for the way the language just rambles on (as fast as the taxi) and the actors speak like they don't need to come up for air. If you ask me, I'd call the language the Tamil of the West. I wanted to catch a few words here and there but all I could take off were bon jour and bon voyage. Oh, and merci bucu. (dunno spelling, execute moi francais..=p) It's a good movie with many comical moments and script, and the pace was fast enough for the audience to be at the edge of their seats and yet in time to catch everything. 'Fast enough' is probably putting it lightly, car fanatics should check this movie out for the modified car of their fantasies. Boy do our Nissans and Mercedes pale in comparision. But then again, our taxi drivers don't speak french. I STILL THINK IT'S A CONSPIRARCY. With my attempt to not reveal all, let's just say there was a CHINESE girl with mixed racial background (read: a SWISS dad), SWITZERLAND and its ALPS, SKIERS, very familar looking roads (as the ones he sends me in pics) and of cos, everything is in FRENCH. Come on, isn't this supposed to be a shot-in-France movie? How come all of a sudden Switzerland and a chinese girl is pulled into the picture??? CONSPIRARCY I TELL YOU!!! *Ahem ahem.* All in all, it's a very funny movie with cool gadgets, dorky characters and an Adam Sandler lookalike. I'd say: go for it! (P.S. You don't have to worry about getting lost about the storyline if you didn't catch Taxi 1 & 2, 'cos it's still ok.) Anger Management: Before I watched it people told me it was very funny. I find it just funny. A real Adam Sandler movie this time, it's unbelieveable and full of crap (literally). One thing I have to give credit to is how the movie progressed, with no part being predictable and you begin to feel pity for Adam Sandler's character. If you're a comedy fan, this movie's for ya. If you want to spend your money only on 'substantial' movies, then perhaps you could give this a miss. Together (Chinese): The initial attraction was the emotionally charged trailors and the fact that this movie's directed by Chen Kaige. It certainly didn't fail. At first when you watch it, you think 'ya ya predictable....usual china script', especially if it depicted china girls as being materialistic and brand conscious, and single middle-aged music teachers as being difficult. But I love how the script twists here and there, and how well that young actor portrayed his character as a budding music prodigy. Having viewed the western culture in movies like Taxi3 and Anger Management, this movie brings you back to Mr Qiu days (notice the violin teacher, doesn't he bare a striking resemblence to Mr Qiu??!) or your chinese roots, 'cos this accurately films how we chinese show emotions without being a very expressive race. This movie had such a nice balance of extreme contrasts in the different characters, and although I left with a few unanswered questions in my head, watching this movie is money well spent. I'm actually thinking of buying the DVD (buying a VCD of this one will underplay the wonderful musical atmosphere) to send to A. Don't think of this as a Billy Elliot movie of the east, think of it as a Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon movie that will win an award with the real Chinese audience. Next up: Talk to her (Spanish). This one seems really good, if the reviews and posters are anything to go by. Will be catching this with Sherwin and whoever he manages to pull along tomm, if you're reading this and feel interested just give me or Sherwin a call! -ZinG- posted by Evon 9:45 AM
